FCC Regulations
Wireless coverage is limited by FCC transmit power restrictions placed on remote devices. These devices are usually limited to half the transmit power of an AP (and often even less)

Limited Connectivity
Therefore, the size of a coverage area is not determined by how far an antenna can propagate RF signal. Rather, coverage area size is determined by how far away a device can be and still connect back to an AP. A device may be able to receive signal, but it's useless if that device can't transmit back to the AP due to its FCC-restricted power.
Seeing a Need
Recognizing this device power limitation as a major obstacle to large-scale wireless connectivity and the deployment of larger networks, we set out to create a solution.
Asymmetrical Gain™
Through years of rigorous lab trials and field tests we developed Apogee™, an antenna which produces an unprecedented receive gain of 24dbi while keeping transmit gain at an FCC-compliant 9dbi. This Asymmetrical Gain™ enables all devices, regardless of power limits, to connect to a wireless network reliably over large distances.
